FAQs
Office Policies
Does your office take my Insurance?
The only insurance plan our office cannot file is North Carolina Medicaid. Although our office is not “in network” with any insurance companies, we do file insurance claims as a courtesy to our patients and accept assignment of insurance benefits. Our insurance specialist will be happy to check you eligibility of insurance coverage upon arrival in our office. Dr. Bolton offers complimentary new patient examinations to facilitate filing of pre-treatment insurance estimates. This enables our patients to have the most current information concerning their insurance benefits payable.
What can I expect at a New Patient Visit?
Dr. Bolton feels very strongly that each patient is an individual with their own needs and desires. For this reason, your first visit will be with Dr. Bolton. This visit will take about 1 hour. During this time, you will get to know Dr. Bolton and her staff. Dr. Bolton will get to know you and what is most important to you. You will have dental x-rays if indicated and a comprehensive dental examination: an oral cancer screening, charting of your existing dentistry, a dental decay examination and a gum examination. From these exams, and with your input, Dr. Bolton will develop a treatment plan to meet your needs.
Does your office offer payment arrangements?
Our office realizes that dental care is an investment in you and your health. Dental insurance may cover some of the expense, but most often, patients are left with an out of pocket piece.
Our office does not want finances to be a barrier to anyone receiving the dental care they need. Additionally, our office does not want our patients to be burdened with bills they did not expect.
Our insurance specialist provides our patients with their portion of the fee prior to their visit so that they can be prepared to pay at time of service. If our patients need smaller monthly payments, she also has several options to offer to meet that need.

General Dental Care
How often should I visit the Dentist?
It depends! Everyone has different needs based on their health.
Regular preventive dental care is the best way to stay healthy and control dental costs.
Patient with low dental decay rates and healthy gums could see their dentist twice a year for check ups.
Patients with gum disease or high rates of dental decay may need to come in for check ups 4 times a year.
Patients that are disabled and have difficulty with home care may need to come in monthly to have assistance keeping their teeth healthy and clean.
Speaking with your dental hygienist or other team members can help you decide what schedule is best for your dental health.
What are the signs of oral cancer?
Oral cancer most often appears on the sides of the tongue or in the floor of the mouth. It may often appear white in color, or sometime red and ulcerated. Most often, these lesions are not painful. In the past, oral cancer has not been predominately a primary cancer lesion, rather a secondary lesion. Oral cancer has been secondary to breast or colon cancer. With the rise in HPV infection, we see more oral cancer in young adults and more oral cancer as a primary lesion.
The take away message is, ask your dentist to do an oral cancer screening at least once a year. Our practice believes strongly in these screenings and provides them with checkups.
